This fun and engaging musical pageant retells the Christmas Story through the eyes of two children who fall asleep in a toy store! In The Toys’ Story, two children go to the mall with their parents, and are allowed to go to the toy store on their own while their parents shop. Losing track of time, they fall asleep in the store and the mall closes for the night. When they awake, the children discover that the toys have magically come to life, and the toys teach them the true meaning of Christmas! (Approximate performance time 30 minutes)
The musical features a flexible script with parts for every age group, allowing for maximum flexibility with age-range, cast size, and rehearsal time. Each part of the story is told through readings from the Bible, pre-recorded videos and/or live pantomime with voiceovers, and an original song sung by the entire cast. Costumes, sets, and props are easy to resource, and there are no scene changes, which allow this show to be staged in any space, including traditional church sanctuaries.
The Toys’ Story features five original songs written and arranged for school-aged children by Joanna Mills. The songs are all set in an accessible range for young voices, and feature simple tunes which are easy to learn. This package contains two versions of each song; an easy unison version (some with an optional easy descant or counterpoint harmonies on the final chorus), and a 2-part choir version, which features simple, easy-to-learn harmonies.
